Double is clearly best just like if your RHO were to open 1H.

I would like to have 4+ or more points to bid dbl.
So I prefer 3.

I somewhat prefer dbl to 3 here as we could belong in or PD could have 5.

Sure I'd like to have a 4th or at least Hxx, but at least I likely can ruff a and have useful side cards if PD gets carried away.

Pass is possible, I'd likely pass if a were a here, although bidding 3 then is not terrible to me, but if I did, I'd consider it almost sub-min.

Routine pass - this is that hand that makes weak 2-bids so effective at times.

Routine pass. Not strong enough for a double or an overcall, and the spade "suit" (and the use of quotes is deliberate) is not even close to adequate for a double.

The requirements for the reopening is related to the possible strength of the pass in direct seat.
So if you pass a 5431 shaped 11 count in direct seat, when do you reopen?

I'm sure that those who bid will require more in 4th seat.
If I pass my partner will expect less than 12 (11) HCP often with bad shape, so he won't reopen in 4th seat with less than good 12 HCP.

I don't know, Justin, with the 2 world championships and the fine showing in the recent Spingold it is getting harder to argue with you....a little like trying to argue Einstein was wrong....

This is a decent hand. We'd like 4 spades to double, or at least Hxx, but passing violates the cardinal rule of competing over a preempt:

Passing is certainly not "terrible". I would x but it is a close thing.
