You're playing with a beginner especially when it comes to bidding. The system is SAYC and he opens quite sound. He probably took your 1N as 6-10.
If you double or if you don't double, what do you lead?

Yeah I double. -2 or seems a lot more likely than -670. I really don't think a passed hand facing a preemptive raise has much shot at this. In addition, pard is a 4th seat opener.
I think I'll lead the ♥Q.

The only reason to double is if LHO is a beginner. What do you think a vulnerable jump to 3S opposite a passed hand overcall and over a 1N bid should look like, in a position where there is almost no preemptive value in a jump?

I am pretty sure the result will not be -670, as the contract is 3♠x.
I don't like the double. While you may be playing with a beginner who opens sound, why would your partner open sound in 4th seat if your partner knows that you might be passing a reasonably good hand?
Or I may be missing something.
In any event, the opponents have announced a nine-card fit. Why tell them where the trump honors are? Of course, you may have done that already, but if there was any doubt, the double will certainly clue them in.

Double is nuts. They are going to guess trumps, and if part of partner's hand is AQJxxx(x) of clubs, they can easily be making. If the opponents are nuts I'll simply accept my moderate gain.
I lead a club, partner did open them after all.

Art, the point is partner opens sound in all seats. I would have said "partner opens sound except 3/4 seats" if that were the case.

Hi,
I would pass, but double is ok.
The main question is, who is sitting on the other table,
do we need to go swinging, or will it be ok, if we keep
the loses on our axes small?
If you think you need to swing, because partner may be
too timid to bid game sometimes, and gussing to bid game
or not is always terrible, I think you can try to go plus on
this hand.
But maybe partner saw YOUR openings, and wanted to try
those out?
With kind regards
Marlowe
