Stacy Jacobs makes the excellent observation in her blog that given the current meltdown of many international share markets and the simultaneous running of the Buffett Cup why has there been no (apparent) attempt to promote this uber-outstanding bridge event during the last few days?
When will there be a more relevant opportunity?
Admittedly I'm positioned in a backwater here, but has anyone with access to perhaps more august publications than I'm used to reading actually seen any mention of Buffett and bridge in mainstream media in the past few days?

Agreed; excellent tournament, nice format, too little publicity. The only objection I have is the fact that the TD takes boards away when they run out of time. I think that's silly in a tournament that is first of all intended as en exhibition match for the whole world to watch on vugraph.
I realise that it's normal procedure in USA to take boards away. You won't see that in Europe. The director can impose time violation penalties as he sees fit, but in my opinion you should not deny the players the opportunity to play all boards.
With this said, I am looking forward to following the last 42 boards today. Down to the wire I am sure; Europe leads by one tiny point going into the last day with 84 points for grabs.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice

Promoting bridge? You mean others might be interested in what we do?
I don't know about the Buffett Cup (I'm not even sure who administers it), but the ACBL does a horrible job at marketing. They can barely coordinate an effort to tell a local newspaper than a National is being held in their town.
When Gavin and Jenny won the Blues, they should have become celebrities. The press would have eaten this up.

I wonder how effective this would be at promoting bridge. Isn't there a chance that someone would bring up the fact that the former CEO of Bear-Stearns might have been spending too much time playing bridge instead of managing his company?
More generally, with the financial industry in turmoil, do you really want financial giants as your spokesmen? They're not held in very high esteem these days.

There's no such thing as bad press.
