Having watched much of the Polish finals this weekend I am interested in their opening lead methods. I've seen them mentioned occasionally in these forums (but could not find an extensive thread) and wondered what the current standard is, and are they the same as Slawinski's Combine leads?

It's certainly interesting to lead low from doubleton. I also wonder what is led from Hxx, since Slawinski suggests lowest but I've seen many lead second from this too?

Also, what are people's experience of seeing a low lead that is either doubleton or from an honour?

Thanks,

Paul

They are not that far removed from "Liggy" leads that Glyn Liggins played with Fawcett, Crouch, Dyson et al (last I heard, anyway):

When not leading from a sequence:

Lead bottom from any even holding, else:

X
Xxx
hXx
hxxXx(xx(xx..))
xXxxx(xx(xx..))

This seems to dispel most confusion. Quality of an even suit is not known, as you lead xxxX as from hxxX

But no method is without some bad options.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

Most lead 2nd from Odd. And 3rd from even.
But you better be experienced cause you gotta pay good attention to a lot of little cards.
