IMPs, short matches.

ATB please.

(after the hand, I convinced him to play 3N by a PH as a 'good' raise to 4M).

I'll be looking forward to his post next time he uses your 3NT, and he has those black suits reversed.

sorry no blame from me. I don't think North has a good raise to 4, albeit it is close.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Well since we play 4 as a help suit slam try, I doubt he will get excited about having KQxx in an offsuit.

Have come to expect more from you. I thought I'd get some bizarre structure like a multi-void splinter or something like that.

No blame, not convinced 6 is very good on a trump lead anyway.

QFE. unless they've cashed a spade, you'll need a helicopter to get back to hand and draw trumps without them getting in and taking a club ruff. that's without even worrying about clubs 4-1

No blame IMO. I would duplicate that auction as well.

Good bidding. A slower auction might end in 7X-2 anyway. 4 really knocked out the opponents.

No blame from me either. It is only the C fit that makes this a decent slam.

Hi,

The only bid up for discussion is 4H.

Abesent any unusal agreement, North could have bid 4D, which wont get South
really excited, since South is looking at the king of diamonds.
But 4D is not an option, the North hand is a preemptive raise, thats it.

With kind regards
Marlowe

That's what happened. Trump J fell singleton which simplified things considerably.

Reminds me of an old B.C. cartoon. Two guys are standing on opposite sides of a stream and one says, "thats funny, on this side the water is running the opposite way". :)

I posed the same question... earlier.
Phil didn't give me a straight answer either, but made a smart-ass remark.
( Lest I forget... he is so much smarter than you and I ).

I think you and I interpreted Phil's "3NT" as an actual place "to play" with the posted hand.

But, I guess he means 3NT is always raised to 4M... but then why bother with "3NT" ??

I would watch your use of the words "so" and "always" in a forum like this. They may indicate a feeling that you do not wish to convey.

I believe I already answered your (Two4's) question.

3N makes no sense 'to play' as a passed hand. I would think most of the regulars would grasp this concept.
