I'd pass, A needed to be somwehere else for me to consider 5

Pass. If we'd been allowed to bid four of a major and then they'd saved in 5, I'd have doubled rather than bidding on. This is the same, except that bidding is even worse, because we might end up in the wrong suit.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

This is not the same, as we haven't bid spades yet and partner hasn't been able to bid 5S with (for example) good support and a diamond void.

I agree with pass though. I'd bid if I knew we'd be able to guess the strain and level correctly. But if we have a slam and play in game, we're probably better off defending. If we have a game and bid a slam, we're almost surely better off defending. If we can make 5H but not 5S, we're also better off defending.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Per the Title, it looks like 20 to me. We have one or two 9-card fits and probably a 1-1 diamond fit. Tricks=20 or 21.

+680--+500 (300 if there is an extra trick)
+650--+300 (100 if)
-100--+100 (-550?)
