I would like to nominate you-know-who for the worst upvoter.

Absolutely. Her upvotes are discerning; and unlike some of us, she doesn't misclick the plus when attempting a reply.

It would be very silly for anyone to vote for me/jdonn for achievement of the year, it is obvious that Justin's year has been so much better. It's telling that nobody even seems to remember he won a national pair game in addition to the other things.

I am surprised by all the nominations for hrothgar; perhaps no one else has noticed his tendency to call people he disagrees with "you loathesome diseased cunt".

If there are people who has forgotten or never knew this incident (like myself), what purpose does it serve to bring it up unless he was nominated for "Best behaving person in forums" ?

What you did contributed nothing but negativity to this great topic IMO.

Actually, you-know-who was the best upvoter.

Can we nominate all 3 of you for a George C. Scott Award?

As a newbie I have been a receiver rather than contributor and would like to nominate all who have taken the time to give considered and clear answers to my many questions, no matter how banal.

Whilst they are too many to mention and it seems unfair to select anyone in particular, I would like to nominate Justin and Frances, getting a response from such high profile players is great for the confidence and the game in general.

For the B/I threads the defensive problems have to be among the best.

Regards,

Simon

For best newcomer I would think SimonFa and Statto are worth nominations. Simon because of well thought out B/I posts and an excellent manner and Statto because he only joined in December but still managed to make a positive impression.

Thank you, but I don't think I have contributed anything more than than the questions that many B/I meet in the real world, the real contributors are those like you that answer them.

Regards,

Simon

Yeah, I'd definitely agree the thing I like to see the most is plays like Gnasher, Justin and Frances putting their 5 bob in.

I feel I should point out that I've never posted anything in the B/I forum, so I can't reasonably be accused of being helpful to beginners and intermediates.

I run a spanish bridge forum, and believe me, the important thing is to have people who asks questions. When there are no questions the forum is dead.

The second clause of that statement does not follow from the first part, unless B/I have somehow been banned from reading other fora.

Poster of the Year
gnasher, JLOGIC, hrothgar, mikeh, FrancesHinden, awm

Nominations will remain open until this Monday, January 23, at midnight (Eastern). On Tuesday I'll create a separate thread for the actual voting.

There have been a few comments about how things of this nature become a "popularity contest"; I hope that's not what people are taking away from it. I have gone back over some of the nominations and the posting history of some of the nominees; it's really mind-boggling to me how much time and effort many of these individuals put into what is, essentially, a completely zero-reward volunteer task. If there is a better online resource for improving your bridge game through interaction with some really good thinkers/writers/players, I don't know what it is.

Sorry if late but, if you are going all the way down to the best signature, i think there are other things that comes prior to the signature in forums contribution wise.

Such as

Best theorician of the year

Best play of the year ( whoever offered the best solution in a play problem)

Best defense of the year ( same as above)

So if u accept these categories, i nominate RHM for best play(s) of the year and Gnasher for the best defense of the year (although i couldnt find it, there was a defensive problem where he nailed it) If it is too late for this and u dont accept, no hard feelings :)

I only included Best Sig because it's a silly, non-bridge-related category that a few people suggested and has the potential to be amusing. I don't want to expand the bridge-related awards for reasons already discussed, at least for this iteration of the awards. If people think it's a good idea to have more awards, I will expand them for next year.

EDIT: FWIW, I am nominating MrAce for Best Sig. That picture cracks me up every time.

Poster of the Year: RHM !!!
Everything he writes is well thought and always to the point.

There have been one or two very good interventions by my dear friend Justin, but overall RHM is well ahead ! No doubt !
