I think he meant doubling and then bidding a suit shows the suit bid and the other suit that pd didnt bid and a slamish hand because he has other ways to show 2 suiters with hands that are not interested in slam.

I agree that there is no hand that would want to invite to slam NT when already passed over 1, which also doesnt wanna convert this DBL.

OP's partner was GIB, and it uses stolen bid doubles obviously. Clearly Michaels.

Sorry, I was thinking about the more general case: (1) - X - (3) - ? . After all, what else can double and pull mean? With a GOSH we are going to bid the suit directly so that only leaves conversion-type hands. And most of those without slam interest are just going to bid their best suit.
