You really rather have 5c for a direct raise, here you have another good option one d.

2 because I usually play 4 card majors. Playing 5533 I guess 1 but I don't like that they can bid their major at the 1 level.

I voted for 2. Partner has real clubs more often than most people think, especially in third seat. And if partner has only three clubs, he is at best 3433 or 4333 and we don't necessarily want to compete to 3 over two of their major. If partner does have clubs and we don't raise now, things could get tricky. What will we do if LHO bids 2 or 2 and it comes back to us? Partner could have either Axx Axx x KQxxxx or Axxx Axxx xx KQx.

Bid 2 for a very good tactical reason. Presumably partner has 12+ HCP, say 13 on average. You have 6 HCP. Doubler should have about the same as opener. That leaves advancer (Doubler's partner) with about the same points as you. The 2 raise may be just high enough to preclude advancer from making a free bid of a major.

At worst, partner might end up playing a 4-3 fit. But that's typically something like 18% of the time.

Yes and even if LHO bids 2M, maybe our partner can bid 3 over it with 5 clubs. That would be impossible if it had gone 1-x-1-2M, now both partner and we would need to guess.

A third option springs to mind if the opponents are not playing penalty doubles of a new suit. ;) Am pretty sure I would just bid 1 though.

I bid a here and in hindsight having only 1 bid I thought 2 would have been better, allowing partner to compete to the 3lvl.
The opp's played in 2, 3 is our best spot.

and especially after RHO has advertised shortness in clubs.

if the opps have all the cards us bidding 2c wont make
any difference to our side. If the deck is more evenly
split we can become a vastly superior competitor by
introducing our dia now and raising clubs later.

I would not even hesitate to bid 3c if bidding went

1c x 1d 2s
p p 3c

because p knows we have at least 5 dia for this bid
and not good enough to xx so we can play in our best
spot.

Why should we trust you. You often point out that you are not a good bridge player, you never take the effort to write coherent sentences unles syou are quoting somebody without saying so, and you never add anything to bridge discussions. And now you ask us to trust your opinion.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
