To make this more readable, please edit the original post to:

(1) replace "http:...html?" with "{open bracket}hv=", and
(2) add " ]400|300[/hv]" after the last "%7C"

In GIB's mind, it needs 29 for a minor suit game (logically need more to make 11 tricks than 10 tricks, this is std). It has 10, It thinks 4d is limited and NF, and not enough for game (with enough for game bid 5d), so it passes. 10+ "17-18" = 27-28, not 29.

Now, arguably on this auction, GIB should be introduced to the concept of "no invites over an invite", since 3d was invitational, then 4d by South should be forcing and unlimited. But you could argue the other way, one could argue that 3d still has a bit of a range, and it is usually aiming toward 3nt not 5d, and since that you have the room opener should be able to ask if responder is min or max to try 5.

This might be the only time that GIB doesn't raise a jump to 5 to 6 :P

I believe it is important that GIB plays this as a slam invite.

Did you bid like slam invite or like invite for game if GIB was on the max 12TP?

It doesn't change anything on this hand, but I think the explanation of 1 should be limited to 18 or 19 total points, since stronger hands would jump shift.
