So, is North not strong enough to invite game opposite a 1NT opener, or is he strong enough to show 11-12 opposite a minimum opener that could be void in his (North's) suit?

Why does neither human evaluate his hand right- its worth about 18 so its too strong to open 1NT and over unusual 1NT, its worth 2NT. I guess GIB thinks you are strong not the weak option of 1C- it afterall has poor decision making programmed in.

8 out of 9 human Souths counted 17HCP and opened 1NT; the second above is the only one to do differently. 5 of the 8 Souths who opened 1NT bid 3N (not 3♦) over 3♣, which I thought was interesting...

I think most people will bid like 1nt-3nt.... I would like to put this hand in european championship and to see how many west will put DQ on the first trick of D.
