Too good for 2 by our methods, I'd open 1, my partner might pass.

So in your partnership we have a 1S opening or a possible pass. There is no in-between hand. If this is the case it sounds like your system has major inconsistencies. (pun intended).

I don't think 3S is terrible but now's not the time for it. Hmmm ok maybe it is terrible. 1S is possible if you play 10-14 openings.

Don't you mean 9-14? Anyway this hand with stiff KJ is not even worth 9.

There are compensating values in the good distribution.
Nevertheless opening this hand 1 and partner responding with a game forcing 2 just feels sick.

And of course your partner never drives to a hopeless game or slam when you open such hands with 1

Rainer Herrmann

It happens occasionally, but we have the agreement that we NEVER open 2 on hands that are rule of 19 (or have 2 aces), and unless there's a very good reason not to, we open all rule of 19 hands at the 1 level (clearly stated on the card), the KJ stiff is debatably that, hence the reply I gave earlier about me opening and partner passing, don't assume everybody plays the same weak 2s, ours can be a zero count. We also don't play 2/1.
