After a couple of uncontested auctions in as many days that started 2C - 2N I should be grateful for some guidance on how y'all recommend that these should be bid. Both are MP, best hand South, but not really relevant.

The easy cop-out in both cases is just to bid slam over 5m, on the grounds that if slam isn't making then you are already riding for a fall by not being in 3N.

As you can see, 3C is not Stayman or in any way artificial. It shows a 5 card Club suit, which is a bit of a bummer when opener is 4441, but I thought it the lesser lie.

A simple raise of 3m to 4m would I assume be forcing, so what is the distinction? The explanation for the 5m raise is not very illuminating. It looks as if it is supposed to show trumps headed by worse than AQ, Well that will cater for about 95% of hands. But why is the strength definition of a 5C raise of 3C different from the strength definition of a 5D raise of 3D?

Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.
