Had I not bid 4♠, I would not be 100% comfortable with sitting for my partner's eventual double of 4♥. And perhaps he would pass out 4♥ out of fear of a pull to 5♣.
So, what is the moral of this story?

I dont understand why you wouldnt be comfortable sitting the double. Partner made a penalty double and I have an Ace when I could have nothing - will expect 500 at minimum
