I really wanted to like it. I enjoy Silicon Valley much more.

They're very different styles. Silicon Valley is pretty broad comedy, so there are plenty of LOL moments. H&CF takes itself more seriously, it's a dark comedy.

I wonder a bit about what non-geeks think of shows like this. Last week's episode of SV had a running joke about tabs versus spaces when editing, and I can't imagine that non-programmers would understand it. Then the final punch line was about Emacs vs. Vim, which would just be total gibberish to them, but I saw it coming a mile away.

But The Big Bang Theory has been one of the most popular shows on TV for the past few years, and it has many of the same issues. I guess people are willing to allow the tech talk to go over their head, because the character interactions are still funny. You don't need to know what a tab is to laugh at someone so anal-retentive that they would dump a smart, beautiful potential girlfriend over something so petty.
