Play or defend textbook hand from play, undoctored

Defend. North inserts the 9 if a small card from dummy is played and now declarer is unable to get to dummy to take the diamond finesse. If North mistakenly puts up the ace, then declarer could unblock the king and now dummy will inevitably get in at some point.

By the way, it is better not to put the auction in "play or defend" hands, otherwise people might cheat by clicking the GIB button.

Correct, as per usual.
If HA, East can throw South in to lead away from SK at t13.
