Quite puzzled. What is wrong with a simple 3c?

What is 2? Did you click on the bid? 4 clubs, 4 diamonds, 8+ points. Why did you pass?

So many whys on this one. Why did you open 1 instead of 1N? Why did you rebid your 5 card club suit? Why did you pass 2 which showed clubs?

2 shows 4 or less clubs, not 4 clubs. When virgosrock posts money bridge hands, something seems to go wrong with the formatting.

Unfortunately GIB has a tendency for bidding irrelevant 4 card suits, even at high levels.

My apologies to wbartley and johnu and others who may have wasted time on this.
I think I need to do a ctrl-minus on my browser php to reduce the font size or perhaps reduce font size if BBO has that option.
I could have had a mental glitch or, more likely, the left side of the blurb got cut off since I don't recall seeing 4c.

I bid 1C instead of 1nt since I had 17 hcp with a decent+ 5 card club suit.

sorry

thanks again smerriman. I take back my apologies to johnu and bartley. I think this is what I had read in the blurb. I have no idea about the formatting. I am following the instructions precisely.

Rule is simple bid a constructive 3C in such cases.

For once on a question posted about a robot's bidding, I am fully on the side of the person. The score for choices made looks like 3-0 in favour of the OP:

1C - too good for 1NT.
Pass (over 1H) - What's wrong with a double showing 4S and responding values?
2C - Opposite a partner who passed over 1H, this looks both safer and a better way to compete for the partscore.
2D - What's wrong with 3C? What's right about 2D?
Pass (over 2D) - Looks like partner has an 8-count with 5-6 diamonds and no club support, and has fallen into one of the holes in GIB's system.

thanks sfi for pointing out the lack of negative double over 1H; particularly when GIBBO strains to make a negative double on "junk" sometimes.
Just seems to find religion at the wrong times. Tournament play or competitive bridge I'd say what the heck and live with it BUT this is money bridge.

thanks again

5332 is balanced, especially when the 5-card suit is a minor, so if you think the hand is worth 17 points then 1NT is the correct opening. Of course you might take the view that it is worth 18.

But yeah, the robot bits weirdly.

well helene it IS 17 hcp. and i added the extra point for good 5 card club suit.
GIBBO rules may be that 2d is constructive and helping towards 3NT just in case partner is short in D since opened 1C.
That must be it. In which case is a good bid by GIBBO however bidding blurbs MUST reflect that.

an do note 1C opener gave a chance at 3NT. If I opened 1NT, no chance.
