X was my call at the table (evaluated my hand as not good enough for 2♦ bid), planning to: Pass 2♥, show ♦ if partner rebids his suit or compete in ♦ if opponents are insisting on ♣

Double is confusing as partner's going to take you (most of the time) for a ♥ suit, and if he then bids 2♥ and you follow with 3♦ that, in my system, would be seen as a forward move and forcing.
You have a good ♦ suit, and temporising with a Dbl. instead of bidding ♦s immediately is suggesting a different hand than the one you have.

Partner doesn’t always rebid 2H but sometimes 3 or 4...and he would be disappointed I guess.
It is generally agreed that after an overcall, 2x is not GF (I guess you play 2/1 but it is for unobstructed auctions). So the hand is strong enough under this considerations / agreement.

If 3d is some sort of systemic bid I would lean toward neg x and not be shocked if things did not go well but consider a 2d bid as a dangerous overbid with those 3 small clubs.

2/1 is what we were playing and 2D is not GF but still not good enough for it I think (but not sure so that's why I posted
I also think that partner could show a better than a minimum hand (invitational+) with 3C.
This being said, my partner's rebid was 4H now what?

it looks like you play negative free bids and that wasn't the case for me and my partner ...

I agree with you, 3D looks good.

I would bid 2D, regardless if I play NFB or not.
What does a forcing free bid promise? 5+ cards in a suit, 10+HCP.
It does not force to game. It may not even promise another bid.
... And I have a simple rebid (3D), I even have defensive.
The truth is, most hands, that would bid a NFB, would also bid the same
way not playing NFB.
