NS play better minor.
N declarer, not vuln.
N opens 1♣, S responds 1♥, N bids 1♠
how should the bidding continue?
should S bid 2♠? he is minimum but has a ruffing value and a good sidesuit which p knows and thus can judge easily?
if S raises, should N bid 4♠, try with a minor or 3♠ or pass?

S should raise to 2!S. N next step depends on form of scoring. I would pass if match points, make a game try of 3!D at imps.

I don't think you can not try for game. DQ and CJ go a long way to making it playable. So I describe my hand with 3D and let partner make the decision.

Hi, the shortage is in partners long suit, i.e. it is not a big asset.
The heart suit hits partners shortage, who will quite often have only 2 / sometimes a single,
if he has the Ace the suit is brilliant, otherwise also not a big asset.
You only have a 44 fit, weak trumps, if partner cant move over a single raise, you will be happy playing 2S.
Over a 2S raise North should invite, if possible showing concentrated club values, again the shortage in partners
suit is not an asset, the void is even worse than the single.
Responder should decline the invite, at most he can make a counter invite. Opener will accept the counter invite.
With kind regards

3♦ here acts somewhat like a bluhmer telling partner to downgrade heart values but to treat a hand like ♠xxxx ♥xxxx ♦Qx ♣Axx as gold. If you do not bid it with this hand, you might as well attach a different meaning to it.

Deal rotated to make West dealer. I rank ...
1. 3♠ = INV Minimises leakage, as as Nullve points out.
2. 3♣ = G/T ♣ values, as Marlowe suggests.
3. 3♦ = G/T Pattern out like SFI.
4. Pass = S/O Timid but likely to work well on this misfit.
5. 4♠ = NAT Brave.
