Although I like the 3 on the hand you played, that hand doesn't compare at all to the hand in this thread, so I wouldn't claim it's putting the money where the mouth is. Apart from that, once you did bid 3 , why not double 4 too? I used to have a partner who used to bid like that to great succes...

As it turns out, I made some money, but not all of it! The best bid was 4 making. I was worried - not unreasonably given the way GIB bids IMO - that if I doubled I would end up in an unmakeable 5 contract. So, basically, I laid in the bed that I'd made for myself.

Overcalling at the 2 level requires more than the 1 level, it works here because E has a hand I'd have opened, ...

As always, Mr Cyberyeti is right again. Here is a hand that the East robot opened against in a recent tournament. K&R rates East as 12.3
I tried to interfere but pushed them into a makeable 3 contract for -1.67.

Here's the solved hand.
The top board went to someone South who managed to scrape 3NT out of it: that would not have been me.

This is not a right/wrong, thing about the opening, I happen to play a system that works better with light openings than most of the US 5M systems and what matters is what you've agreed with partner is what an opening bid looks like. For us that is rule of 19 with no K/Q/J single or Q /J double

The hand is from an ACBL robot tournament - oddly, the ACBL GCC is meant to apply, although GIB is presumably its old USA 2/1.

Overcalling 2 on a non passed hand is overadventurous and certainly inviting trouble..Norths raise to 2 Is okay ,Exchange the 10 and the 8 and the hand becomes just a bit worthy of a stronger response.East is a passed hand and so he may consider bidding 3 which may convey a better info.rather than the tepid 3. South has no reason to proceed to a game contract.
As the cards lie the play is easy and straightforward the diamond finesse either wins or loses.
