Game tries, everything really

I nearly passed 1 spade, signed off in 3 after the game try
The game barely makes - not even sure it does DD
I would have been happy in 1+3 or 3 or anything

Especially in best hand bridge

I just really don't understand the game try. On another day it could have had AKQ but today at least I interpreted it correctly

Singleton King is about 12.5% so isn't a good game with 3 quick losers.

I know that Steve

I was asking why it went to game after I bid 3 spades after a game try - which appeared to be a help try - but as I also said I have had game tries with 1+ top honours

The whole point of my post is wondering why it went to 4

Especially after I nearly passed 1 spade and thought I had signed off in 3

If you are happy to go to game after a negative game try why even ask

And before anyone calls out doubleton means go to game I already knew the point counts and was generally happy in 3 or less

I see nothing wrong with the game try itself, but the rest is rather odd. In your shoes I might have accepted, but when you refuse it has no business bidding 4S. It's worthy of note that not even the refusal can convince East to lead a top diamond and see the dummy.

I agree it doesn't make any sense. Apparently it is still allowed to make sims after a rejected game try. The game try itself is presumably not based on sims.

In defence of GiB, I have played with some humans who felt they had the same right B-)

GIB was assuming you had an actual vuln 4th seat opening, not a crappy balanced 12 count with no tricks and no defense. The N hand is practically a GF with a fit in either major.

Nah, Possum has 16 Pearson points and no points in his short suits. Plenty for an opening in any seat.

GiB and I now have an understanding. They are clearly slam tries :)

3 losers in spades though

I have never considered Pearson points before - I like excuses/reasons to bid :)

I generally play to win. That means bidding your 3N and major suit games. I do not optimize my bidding for part scores, nor does any good player I know.

The reason I really don't like opening with this hand in 4th specifically is that opponents almost certainly have a spade fit, but they haven't bid them yet.

I appreciate that but sometimes passing before game can be the winning strategy - or do I mean a useful tactic occasionally :)
