Nope. That's an intermediate hand not a strong one for me and partners made a simple raise.

3 approximately shows this type of hand, partner hasn't shown signs of life, he's just raised, if he has 2 aces Jxx and a stiff diamond or better hands I'd have expected 4, might he have AQ/A in the blacks and Jxx ? not sure, but that would be unfortunate.

Hi,

you have 4 loosers, that a passed hand needs to cover.
The diamond attack will make sure, that if they get in, diamonds will be cashed.
In other words you need at least 2 Aces with p, and a Q to give slam a chance.

In short: no.

And there is no 5 level safety.

with kind regards
Marlowe

No, definitely not. This is nowhere near. If this was a slam partner was to blame for not bidding 4.

Of course it was not quite strong enough for slam
Didn't stop me going for an unlikely top
Only play I could see was a spade finesse and lucky break
But if you are going 1 down for a bottom make it two down lol

It's a shame I did not think like all the above company at the table lol

Even at my basic level this was not my finest hour

EDIT There is also the small chance of playing for the drop in spades and dropping the losing diamond under East's singleton Ace of trumps lol. Sadly that quite possible chance was not there either. And sadly the spade intermediates were not good enough to try it a couple of times. Went for broke with the finesse straight away

Opposite a good human player, there is no way I would make another move.

Opposite a robot or some partners, I might consider another move, because I don't trust them to have shown a control with an appropriate hand. Probably not since partner is a passed hand after all, but...

I got a bit carried away with how much I liked my hand but the diamond loser was a killer

A clear 5 hand

Sometimes I like to take a bit of a chance but as gambles go this was a bad one

A basic rule to follow at bridge, is you show your hand as accurately as possible at your first opportunity. So, did 3♡ show that hand? Well, yes, it did, though I'd not have shot you if you had bid 4♡ directly, were you my partner. (My style at the bridge table is usually to make one more trick than the field, so I compensate by bidding 2 more than the field.) Regardless, 3♡ is probably the descriptive choice. And if you have shown your hand, and partner did not look for a slam, then you should not push. you need to trust your partner to hear what you said. Admittedly, trusting a bot partner is often difficult. But here, you did show your hand. And your shape is the worst possible for a 7 card suit. That is, 7222 shapes are the least attractive.

Finally, partner was a passed hand! Can you really pray that partner has 3 cover cards for your 4 losers? If partner has the cards you need for slam, they might have opened the bidding.

Never fall in love with a hand. They will usually leave you at the altar, as bridge hands are untrustworthy beings.
