Stupid lead, as usual. While one random hand never proves anything, note that on this random hand the NORMAL diamond lead would easily allow EW to take the first four (diamond) tricks on the fly and would subsequently defeat the contract when West later won his offside heart king!

On this STUPID lead, declarer took TEN tricks when a NORMAL diamond lead would have held him to eight.

Then West had a SECOND chance to beat the hand, but FAILED...miserably! He won his offside heart king at trick two and, imbecile that he is, played a second spade.

Although I, as South, happened to have 13 HCP, I fail to see why GIB defines my 1NT as "11-13 HCP"...and I DEFINITELY fail to see why North now leapt to three...no trump (!) with his FIVE-one-FIVE-two 13- count! Note, BTW, that he again betrays his own GIB definition, which states that his call shows "14-21 HCP"...although the REAL joke is that he made this bid when he had 10 cards in spades and diamonds.

3NT is, of course, a ridiculous spot with our combined heart "stopper" of 542 tripleton opposite stiff 10, but VERY luckily, the suit blocked, so the GIBBO trout in the North will undoubtedly CONTINUE bidding as atrociously as he did here.

North's 2S call is surprising...because he has four HEARTS on the side, and if the GIBBO robots have four of the OTHER major, they will not open a weak two bid. This was not a weak two opener, of course - it was a preemptive jump overcall, but it still seems inconsistent with GIBBO philosophy.

The "defence" was - as I would ALWAYS expect with GIBBO robots - HORRENDOUS. East led his stiff diamond five, and after trick one, WEST surely should have KNOWN that his "partner" had led a singleton, because whether North followed with the 7 or the 9, the ONLY diamond West would not have seen would be North's remaining one (be it the 7 or the 9), and East had led the FIVE! If EAST had the missing diamond, it would mean he had been born with either 95 or 75 doubleton of diamonds, but in either of those cases, he would NOT have led the FIVE! Thus it was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OBVIOUS for West to give East a diamond ruff, which would have prevented the overtrick, but since West was a typically braindead piece of trash GIBBO robot, he FAILED to find the OBVIOUS defence. They are useless, COMPLETELY useless...and they should be destroyed (forever!) and replaced.

More GIBBO inconsistency: The robots play Smolen, so why in this auction is North bidding 3S rather than 3H?

Next: East's double of 2C is reasonable, but why the HELL is he making a takeout double of three SPADES, thereby pretty well forcing his "partner" West to the FOUR level...when he KNOWS from the auction that West is VERY weak? South's 1NT was defined as showing "15-17 HCP" and North's 3S as "9-11 HCP", so NS presumably have a combined HCP total of 24-28, and East has TEN himself. Thus he "knows" that West has at MOST 6 HCP and could have as few as 2.

East's double of 3S is insane...but West's bid of four HEARTS (!!!) on 762 tripleton (!!!) is far, FAR worse than "merely" insane! It is GIBBO-level INSANE! Anyone anywhere...EXCEPT for the worst "bridge players" of ALL time (namely the execrable GIBBO robots!)...would bid the OBVIOUS four CLUBS, but not Superstooge from the GIBBO family!

These clowns are a humiliation to BBO.

We had a shared top of 77.78 % for going down "only" one in 4S...but why the Hell are we IN 4S? The C.R.E.T.I.N.O.U.S., dimwitted GIBBO robot (aren't they ALL?) sitting across from me LEAPT to 4S for absolutely no reason except for his terminal stupidity.

The GIB definition of 4S was, BTW, as AWESOMELY ridiculous as the bid itself. We always EXPECT truly PATHETIC definitions from GIB and we are almost NEVER disappointed. We certainly saw the "quality" we would expect with THIS one, as GIB uselessly - but more importantly, INSANELY - defined 4S as "4+ spades; 6+ total points". That's it, that's ALL, that's the COMPLETE joke of a definition! It exhibits all the vagueness, laziness, and sloppiness that we have sadly come to EXPECT from the worthless, pathetic GIB definitions. How many spades does he have? Oh, he has at least four...but he MIGHT have up to 13. How many points does he have? Oh, he has at least six, but he MIGHT have up to 37. And actually, it's even WORSE than that, because it's referring to "total" points, not HCP...so he might even have FEWER than six and he might also have even MORE than 37. Then there's the fact that GIB has no IDEA about "total" points anyway, which it has proven in NUMEROUS hopeless definitions.

But just consider: Any time your partner opens the bidding, you show at least 4 cards in a major and at least 6 points, and your partner raises your suit to the two level in a competitive auction, GIBBO is now saying that you have carte blanche to LEAP to game in your major...EVEN IF you have NO MORE THAN the same four cards in the suit and the same 6 points that you ALREADY promised! In effect, this laughable definition is tantamount to recommending a jump to 4S in ANY similar auction...EVEN if you have a hand such as 5432, Q32, QJ2, J32 (or countless others of that ilk). On the hand linked below, the definitions of 1S and 4S (!) have EXACTLY the same criteria: "4+ spades; 6+ total points". The ONLY difference is that the definition of ONE spade also ANNOYINGLY says "Free bid" (No KIDDING, GIB!) and mentions that it's "forcing".

GIB/GIBBO = garbage of the worst sort!

The hopeless GIB definition (gee, what a SHOCK!) claims that South's 3S bid shows "17 HCP". There is no earthly REASON why the bid has to show 17 HCP!

We got 68.75 % for going down one in 2H, but that's not the story. The story is the ongoing, never-ending LIE that the GIB definition ALWAYS gives for this and analogous auctions.

2C is defined as "New suit - 3+ clubs; 5+ hearts; 11+ HCP; 12-18 total points". Garbage as usual, but also DISHONEST.

First, and this is the LEAST of evils here, note the tremendously annoying first two words: "New suit". Yes, GIB, it is INDEED a "new suit"...as everyone and his grandmother ALREADY knew even without those two useless, needless, annoying, condescending, insulting words that for some unknown reason you love to POLLUTE your stinking, lousy definitions with.

The 2C call, Mr. GIB, does NOT promise at least three clubs. I'll type slowly so that you, Mr. GIB, can understand WHY it promises ONLY two clubs.

In this actual hand, South is 4-5-2-2 with 13 HCP. GIBBO plays five-card majors and does NOT play Flannery, so South has a perfectly normal 1H opening. When his partner North bids a forcing 1NT, South has to bid again, because 1NT is...DUH..."forcing"! South cannot raise to 2NT (or higher) because he does not have enough points. South cannot bid 2S because that would be a reverse and he again does not have enough points. South cannot bid 2H because that would promise a sixth heart and he has only five. That leaves 2C and 2D as his ONLY possible calls, but in such 2-2 situations, the "default" bid is 2C, for TWO reasons: The first is that, since it's lower, it's more flexible. The second is that it ensures the "integrity" of a 2D call over the forcing 1NT, because 2D WOULD promise at least three diamonds.

But the key issue is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for having this LIE, this GROSS INACCURACY constantly appearing! It should NEVER have been written in this grossly INCORRECT way to BEGIN with, and it SHOULD have been fixed long, LONG ago!

And BTW, the GIB definitions of ALL one-level suit openings are also LIES, because they ALL are defined as showing "11-21 HCP" even though I have, on many occasions, seen the GIBBO robots open a one-level suit bid with ONLY 10, if they had a shapely hand.

GIB definitions are SO pathetic that they cannot get even the SIMPLEST things right!

OMARHEUM has sent two more hands. Here is the first. He writes "94%. Everyone played 3NT, but two of us made 5. West led the spade queen, and I later guessed clubs because it seemed unlikely that West would lead away from the club king after winning his jack."

My comments:

Typically stupid lead.

Typically stupid club continuation. Why do these rejects LOVE to return the suit DECLARER just played?

GIBBO robots stink.

OMAR's second submission today. He writes "77% for third hand LOW in hearts at trick seven".

My comments:

Third hand LOW and its equally imbecilic companion second hand HIGH were mainstays of the GIB robots who were the immediate predecessors of GIBBO. Incredible as it seems, given how AWESOMELY bad the GIBBO robots are, their GIB predecessors were even worse. Lorserker at least made some improvements to the leads. The robots are still among the worst leaders of all time, but they ARE better than GIB was. Also, GIBBO might still occasionally commit the third hand LOW and second hand HIGH atrocities, but it does so less often the pitiful GIB robots did before Lorserker's BADLY-needed MINOR upgrade.

Here, though, I don't blame West, because he actually made the NORMAL play here, assuming that DECLARER, NOT his "partner" East, held the heart ace. Only a MONUMENTALLY STUPID imbecile with NO idea whatsoever about how to play bridge (in other words, a typical GIBBO piece of trash robot!) would UNDERLEAD (!!!) the heart ace at THIS point in THIS hand...after seeing declarer earlier PITCH TWO HEARTS!

Why on EARTH would East UNDERLEAD his ace? If DECLARER has the king, underleading will NOT pay off! And if WEST has the king, East is giving him (his "partner"!) a problem...as he DID!

I've often said that it SEEMS like these jerks are getting worse every day, but that I really don't think they are. I think it's just that they are (and always have been) so disgustingly, sickeningly hopeless that they are constantly capable of reaching into their bag of tricks and pulling out new, OUTLANDISH examples of insanity that CONTINUE to amaze NORMAL players each and every day. We would be very hard-pressed to create WORSE robots than these pieces of trash even if we tried!
