Scoring: IMP

West North East South

 Pass  1    1    2
 3    3    Pass  3NT
 4    Dbl   Pass  Pass
 Pass

I am not sure if this matters but they play strong club

Hi can I have opinions on my 3NT bid, I made an assumtion that 3hearts by my pard could be asking a spade stop and showing a Diamond stop, or it could be distributional and if so he would take me out of 3NT

I was accused of making a deceptive play by someone, but I just want clairfication that what I did was not wrong or perhaps you agree and think I am guilty of deceptive play

my pard was mislead so I am not sure if this is another case of me being a bad partner, perhaps this is whyt I cant keep one

anyway your comments would be welcomed

The bidding all looks a little strange to me after the 3 bid. South has denied four hearts in most systems when bidding 2 so I do not understand why North has introduced the suit when he has stops everywhere.

If I held the South hand I'd probably raise to 4 (since I've denied four hearts and do not have a diamond stop).

I doubt I'd have considered 3NT but the opposition are probably over-rating your ability if they believe you are making deceptive bids. However it's not illegal to make a deceptive bid so I really don't understand their complaint; they should really be looking at their own bidding!

Presumably you mean that you were accused of deceptive bidding. There is nothing illegal or indeed ethically wrong with deceptive bidding (or play in defence) so long as this is not an undisclosed agreement with partner. I agree with your assumption btw that partner was bidding hearts because he was seeking a spade stop from you. It would therefore have been better to bid 3 showing a stop so that partner could bid 3NT because right siding might be vital. Of course partner should have bid 3NT over 3 but that is another story.

I hope you got 800 out of their indiscretions.

The idea that you and your partner have worked up this great scheme so that S can play 3NT when N holds the king and E has bid diamonds is crazy. They may not like your bidding, you may not like your bidding (surely you should not go out of your way to make S the declarer) but if they think about this at all fairly they will conclude that they were beaten honestly.

Recently I opened a minor, lho doubled with a 2 card heart holding catching his partner with six hearts and still they managed to stay at a makable level. I looked up their other hands after the tourney. They just bid strangely (and in their case not very successfully overall). People need to relax about these things. Most surprising things are just surprising, not criminal.

If I was trying to get to 3NT as south I also would have bid 3 instead of 3NT.
