This auction came up once in bidding panel of the Dutch BF magazine. Most interpreted as Michael's. So I must bid 4♥.

With one p I have agreed that 2♠ would be Michael's and this would presumably be like a jump cue over a suit opening, asking me to bid 3NT if I have a spade stopper. But this is probably an exotic agreement and besides it is impossible unless there are some 50 HCPs in the deck.

Oh, it wan't natural, I am still passing as the 1NT opener's idiotic x gave pd a chance to show what he really has got. Over pd's xx I will bid 3NT.

if 2s is plain t/o then this must be H+m two-suiter
if 2s is already 2-suiter then this is long closed suit and something on the side, asking for stopper although from our hand looks like that's not the case

Without agreement, I'd assume double = hearts, 2♠ = takeout, and 3♠ = Michaels.

Over the transfer I usually play 4♣/♦ as two-suited with the other major. In other auctions where I play this, 3♠ would be asking for a stop, but I can't remember ever bidding it in this sequence.

I think partner is asking for a spade stop and has a running minor, likely diamonds!

OK, I've read that, and I agree that a first-round action risks giving away information unnecessarily. Against that, if you have a good hand this auction:
  1NT  pass  2♥  [takeout bid]
  3♠
is rather better than this one:
  1NT  pass  2♥  pass
  3♠  pass  pass

It's possible that I'm being influenced by the number of 12-14 notrumps I have to play against, but against any range I like to be able to show a takeout double either on the first round or on the second, so as to differentiate between good hands and less good ones.

Against weak notrumps I play that the double of 2H just shows a strong hand.

Ugh!

This is tough. The easy part first.

2♠ = Michaels
2NT = Minors. Same for any NT bid higher than that.
4minor = natural

So, what is 3♠ and what should I do?

Well, the second part is easy. I bid 3NT because I have hearts stopped and because I want to know what minor he has. If he has a one-suited minor, he will pass. If he has a mega-Michaels, he will bid a minor, and I will bid 4♥. If partner takes this as a slam try, I have it.

The first part is tough. Normally, a jump cue is asking for a stopper, but it might make more sense here as Super-Michaels. I have never discussed this specific sequence, so I'm not sure.

Can partner have the "need a stopper" hand?

Well, I'll give him a void in spades. Diamonds is his suit, and AKxxxxxx works if partner is brazen. That gives Opener QJ tight. Opener can also have all the missing spades, KQJ, such that he is up to 9 HCP. I need to find Opener with about 6 more points, but probably 7, and partner to still have some controls. I'll give partner the club Ace, an exciting card for him, and thus Opener the QJ. Now I need 3-4 more points for Opener in hearts. Heck, I'll give him five and take one away. KQ, but without the diamond Queen. Something like:

Um. No -- partner might have AKQ seventh in diamonds, instead, in which case I need that heart 9 from him. I have not yet worked out a method for cuebidding critical nines. LOL

I suppose that I could describe my honors, as he would be looking at the heart nine. Hmmmm. Interesting. Maybe redouble should show first-round spade control with enough stuff to be interested in the diamond slam. Partner could then cue 4♣, realizing that I would have to understand this to be a cue and not his suit, allowing me to recognize that the club King is a working card. I then can count up at least seven diamonds, two clubs, and two major Aces, for 11 tricks. If partner held simply AKQ-seventh and a side club Ace, the would not have enough for this 3♠ cue. Thus, he needs something in hearts. I suppose I could then devise that a 4♥ call is sort of like an asking bid, asking for a holding that opposite an Ace or King would yield a fair shot at bringing in the suit for one loser. The method would be that 4♥ shows the Ace or King, a novel approach.

Yeah, maybe 6♦ should be reached.
