Scoring: IMP

If South opens 1NT or 1♦, West overcalls 2♦ showing both majors. If south opens 1♣, west overcalls 2♣ (both majors). If north doubles the bid or passes, East bids 2♠ after which East and West are out of the auction.

7NT on the bidding is obviously the place to be, but to get there you need to know about the heart 8 and T in the NS (here EW) hands. Seven clubs has no real play, and even 6C has some problems (on simulations). AT this point, with this grand slam bid, GIB (or and Jdonn) are in 4th place in the scoring and 2nd in the lower group. Go, go Gib!!!

Can someone post a good auction after:

1NT (14-16) - 2♦ - ?

We stopped in 3NT as my partner (reasonably I think) refused to make a slam try with N's hand. It went:

1NT - 2♦ - dbl - 2♠
pass pass 3♣ pass
3NT pass pass pass

Any mistakes here ?

I didn't bid the hands, but IMO north's first double is not worth it, opps have spade fit and you aren't gonna play there. I'd start with either 2♥ (showing a stopper here) or 3♣.

1nt(14-16)=(2d!)=3c(nat, gf)
3nt(3d sounds like a cue in support of C)=4nt( I think north hand well worth a quant raise)
6d( choice of games by south)=p easy accept.

Another possibility suggested by a Pal is to play a jump to 3s as a splinter!


1nt=(2d!)=3s! splinter...now getting to 6d is easy...getting to 7d is still tricky..
