matchpoints, all white

1S P 2C (3D) 3H ?

my hand is JT963 T6 9842 85

We play fairly undisciplined, aggressive but not overly so. Should I further the preempt here? How high?

I take that as a no. I passed. Responder bid 4N and reached 7C so I'm wondering whether I should have taken up some room. It seems like at least a small slam is a heavy favorite.

Whew!

In any auction, one could interfere with the opponents' bidding. I mean, with 4333 and a yarb, you could overcall a 2NT opening by bidding your 4-card suit. That would ruin their chances of an unimpeded auction to whatever end contract they might otherwise reach.

I appreciated kenrexford's reply and he's the only one who has answered so far. Do you disagree with pass? What would you bid?

Your pard came into a 2/1 sequence with a jump to 3D, and you have four of them? 5.

Or at least take away their cue with 4. Any big jump risks a larger number against their game / slam.

I assume kenrexford misread the auction.

Straube, one side of me wants to bid 5 and take as much space as i can immediately, hit and run style. Other side of me tells it is sometimes better not to corner opps because it usually ends up them bidding a game/slam or grandslam that they would have never bid if they were left alone.

I'd personally go with 5. After all pd is suggesting a save, i have 4 trumps of his preempt suit and not 1 single defensive trick, not even a fourth round of defensive trick and i am far from being 4333 or 5332

I wouldn't do any more than 4. If I bid 5 they may just take the money, and -800 is rarely a good score at matchpoints.

4 is probably safe, because LHO won't want to defend at the four level when he hasn't shown his heart support.

-920 or -940 -980 is even worse, but i maybe resulting. Hard to be objective when knowing they make grand.

Nope. I still pass. I'm just rather shocked that others keep bidding.

shocked or not...look. the only time they are not cold for a slam is if the diamonds are 2-2. (o.k., maybe a couple of other cases where pard had a useful outside card and we are down 500 vs their 4 something. And then they might not get it right either.

Your partners bid 3 here with AKxxx?
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I don't understand why is everyone so sure that slam is making. It says that our preempts are undisciplined. Doesn't that mean that partner is allowed to have side values?

Anyway, even if they have slam on, that doesn't mean that -800 will score well - nobody said this was the final of the World Pairs. Also, it might be 1100, eg xx xx AQJxxxx xx.

What do you think partner's 3 shows?

I would just bid 4, anyway.
