Gonna trust partner, 2 is semi artificial I assume and he knows I might only have 4 and have a strong preference for nt, he said no to nt so 6.

Thinking he holds something like 4-0-4-5 or maybe even 3-0-5-5 with the intention to reverse in the minors but we stole his bid and was bidding like this to seek out a potential grand.

Partner is exactly 4-1-3-5 if we can trust him.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Huh, so is 6nt one of the choices being offered, I would have thought he was insisting on a suit contract despite our strong indications to the contrary.

There is no point to being in 6, nothing much to ruff in short suit. Ruffing some in 6 might be very usefull but you have to contrast that with the chance of getting a bad diamond break when 6nt might be cold.

I have no clue what pard has, but if 5NT is pick a slam, my choice is diamonds because of the possible 44 fit and discards on hearts.

can not be 4-4, he would have directly raised your 2, unless 2 was not a gf bid.

Sorry Phil, this is also one of the hands i watched and it is hard not to be influenced from knowing what your pd has. But i would probably bid what u did at the table.

Well, if pard can't have four diamonds, what choice do I have but to bid 6NT? :)

and why does the stiff need to be low?

The only thing we can get from a suit contract vs 6NT is to ruff a club in hand. And that will only happen playing in hearts opposite stiff 10 or queen. Partner knows we have 5.

Your partner held: AKxx Q Jxx KQJTx. The subject hand bid 6, which wasn't a fun contract when clubs went 5-1. 6 makes and 6 is obviously hopeless. 6N from the heart side is the best spot. The other table played 3N.

Suggesting a 5-2 fit on a small doubleton? That doesn't seem right. 5NT seems way too much.
