2 was announced as stayman, but the agreement was actually that 2 was a natural escape.

South made 11 tricks in 3. Were NS damaged by the MI?

What did S say he'd have done if 2 had been correctly described ?

My guess is that NS would have played in a heart part score pretty much however the auction had developed.

South would have passed 2, to give partner the opportunity to double for penalties. North would have bid 2 had it been passed round to her. NS aren't sure how they would have bid from there.

However, this didn't happen because West forgot his system. What North would have done had West remembered the system is irrelevant.

We have a mistaken explanation of 2C, and West bid as if his explanation was correct. East made no attempt to use the UI from the mistaken explanation. The only person whose first-round action is strange is South.

No adjustment, no damage, no nothing. Let's ignore the defense allowing the heart partial to make five

It's harder to ignore the likelihood that NS will often make 10 tricks playing in hearts, indeed I can't see what the defence can do to stop it.

But I can't see NS bidding 4H even if S bids on the first round. N barely has what he has promised with his double, and isn't going to be accepting invitations or encouraging progress - and we have evidence from the auction to support that; S isn't going to bid 4H on his own - and we have evidence from the auction to support that.

I'm guessing there was a lead and continuation and the loser went on a long . Not entirely unreasonable.

As for the ruling, table result stands. The MI didn't impact on any decision NS made and East didn't take advantage of the UI from the MI.
