So responder has 3-4 card .
Leading is out of question.
Leading doubleton suit to find partner when 3 went in front of him does not strike me either.

I lead my whichever is our agreement with this holding.

If we assume dummy will have a maximum of 2 spades and 3-4 hearts, there will often be too many diamonds between declarer and dummy to be effective. A heart honor blows a trick too often. I'm leading a club.

Forgot to mention it was IMPs, not sure if it would change anyone's mind.

Not mine, but obviously the way you talk seems lead was winner, no?.Posted Image

With no side entry, if I'm leading a heart, I'm leading a small one (9xxx, Kx, Qx round the table possible), but not sure I'm leading one at all.

I'm trying to hit a pretty narrow target here and many things could be right, I think it's very likely partner has no more than 3 diamonds, but that doesn't look like it's going anywhere, maybe the best shot is that partner who has more high cards than I do for potential entries has say AQ10xx over one of the honours to 3 in the dummy and a stop to prevent them cashing 9. I think 5 clubs in his hand is quite likely, and I have an ace to pump another through.

low heart

Bridge is difficult as it is and defence even more. Imps, so we must defeat the contract. Now there is a simple rule, if we do not know what to lead we lead longest and strongest. Can be wrong can be makestart can be overtricks, but at least partner knows what I am doing. In this case I thin k I can afford the jack.

  • x = ditto.
  • = especially effective if partner forgot to double 3.
  • = board was placed in center-forward position.

Yes partner can double 3 some of the time it's right, but they are a) averse to playing 3 doubled or redoubled when they may have 5 clubs and a 9 count but partner could easily have none and a zero count b) wanting a club lead against 3N, but not necesarily against 4M in which dummy has already shown interest.

Yes, there are risks attached to doubling 3 on moderate club suits, but surely partner would double on the holding you cited in your previous post, AQ10xx.

Things seem to be sitting nicely for declarer so I think I will introduce some feigned risk - I lead the 5 of diamonds (if 4th best), trying to suggest a 5-card suit.

small heart is by far the best chance to beat the contract, declarer may have KQ dub or honor dub with dummy 4 small. anything else is too remote.
