Hypothetical situation. You are about to start a single session single section club game and you have 10 full tables plus a pair that should be available in the next 15 minutes (one member of a husband/wife pair is present, the other confirmed by cell phone is on his way). You decide to play a 10 1/2 table Appendix Mitchell (much better than a 9x3 11-table Mitchell with phantom due to the many boards in play missed by all pairs).

Near the end of the first round, you learn the missing player has been involved in a very serious traffic accident and, of course, the spouse leaves also. So you are left with 10 full tables with two tables (we'll assume Tables 1 and 10) sharing Boards 1-3.

Assuming you have only one set of boards and want every pair to play at least 24 boards, how do you adjust your 10 1/2 table Appendix Mitchell with your extra pair no longer available?

Put boards 28-30 in as a relay set between Tables 5 & 6 and it becomes a Share & Relay Mitchell of which you can play just 8 or 9 rounds.

Thanks, Gordon!

For those in ACBL land, here is how you would deal with this situation using ACBLscore.

Don’t let anybody start Round 2! Then change the movement to the 10 table bye stand relay (relay/share). Remember to choose "8" or "9" for your number of rounds, and ensure you choose "Bye-stand Relay" for your type of Mitchell.

You are supposed to have boards on the bye stand and it’s empty. So go put Boards 28-30 on the bye stand that were not in play before. And how is ACBLscore going to know these new bye stand boards?

Click F11, EDMOV, "Display or reassign board sequencing" which shows where ACBLscore THINKS all the initial board locations happen to be. Change the bye stand boards to 28, 29, and 30. All the boards after the bye stand will adjust themselves magically to the boards that are actually on those tables for the first round. Confirm it shows the correct boards on the correct tables for Round 1, click OK, and your movement is good to go! You end up playing the first 9 of 10 rounds of the 10-table bye stand relay movement.
