My bidding is explained as showing 22-24 hcp, GIB had 5 hcp, yet dropped me at the 3 level. Hand is from the free daylong IMP tournament on 9/30/2017.

This reminds me of a hand I posted last year where GIB also went wrong after a transfer when there was some opposition bidding: http://www.bridgebas...94-oh-dear-gib/

Sadly, that was 14 months and several upgrades of GIB in the past, and nothing was done, so..

I suspect the simulations don't go well for this hand in 3N. Gib will have to bid 3N as choice of game. 3N will go down. But if it can get to 4S will do fine. this just a product of the way gibs bids in these situations. You could force 4S on Gib then your end up in a 5-2 fit and are down.

I think gib has it right on this hand or at least it is reasonable if cautious.

I think you are being a bit too generous, Steve. Even timid players would bid game in 3NT or 4 of a major with a known combined high point count of 27 minimum. Personally I find it strange how GIB bids like a loony on some hands, and then on this hand ducks out. As you say, it is down to the simulations, but if GIB cannot simulate a simple standard auction where all intermediate players would be in game then it's not good.

Oh, and welcome to the forums super69 :)

Super 69: I would rebid 3NT (as South) with 23 hcp and all the aces and AK in two 4-cd suits.
Ultra Relay: see Daniel's web page: https://bridgewithda...19/07/Ultra.pdf
C3: Copious Canape Club is still my favorite system. (Ultra upgraded, PM for notes)

Santa Fe Precision published 8/19. TOP3 published 11/20. Magic experiment (Science Modernized) with Lenzo. 2020: Jan Eric Larsson's Cottontail . 2020. BFUN (Bridge For the UNbalanced) 2021: Weiss Simplified (Canape & Relay). 2022: Canary Modernized, 2023-4: KOK Canape.

I didn't say normal human wouldn't bid game.
gib simulations will say 3N is bad contract and it is hopeless unless D suit blocks
so unless it think 52 major fit works or 53 fi likely its not bidding game. I don't know enough about gib simulation on its ability to find 52 or 53 fit here

like it or not gib doesn't think on this hand its bid will come from simulation

human would take a shot

A bit rich for my tastes, especially when the X all but guarantees the J is a wasted value. Change the 5 to the 5 and it's more plausible.

Free daylongs use basic robots, which don't run any simulations at all on the bidding.

Well I wonder what it's bidding on then? This won't be in it's database. Even without it's simulation Gib should still be wondering about how 3N (the normal bid) will do. But should bid 3N and leave it to p who will bid 4S

If there isn't a rule telling it what to bid, it passes. It doesn't have any sense of wondering how a bid would do.

It's because of the double. GIB gets confused about it's bidding rules after that. I have it on the list for a future upgrade.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
