Easy to realise you're missing ♠KQ, particularly if your opening style is such that N's diamond suit need not be that good.

I would duplicate smerriman's auction except with another round of bidding between 2♠ and 4N to confirm partner actually had the 4th spade.

Trickier is where N's hand is xxxx, Axx, AQJxx, Q and you DO want to bid the slam in diamonds or NT but 5♠ may fail if the trumps don't break.

Much the same as others, but this is a splinter hand for me.

North lacks at least an ace (and another goodie) to splinter. It commits to game opposite a partner who can have as low as 5-6 HCPs.

Invent a 3♣ bid, partner may well bid 3N with the 3451 version of his actual hand.

Good point about a 3 card raise - though if partner did bid 3NT, what then? Must still be a decent chance of slam.

I can bid 4♦ which partner will know is 3 or 4N quantitative.
