I realize this is a balancing auction and I've already been told that GIB balancing needs work, but this is a fairly common situation where North is much better served by doubling in the balancing seat and correcting a 3♣ response to 3♦ rather than unilaterally bidding 3♦.

i agree GIB should if anything x, but over 3C i would definitely pass rather than 3D
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

The only South hand shape where correcting doesn't work out as well as passing is 3316 and even then you end up playing the 43 heart fit which is okay.
In GUBBO's world double is 14-16 (I think) so it is stuck. It did not overcall 2D hence is weak. Seems to not have clubs. Take life in hand and bid 3H? Almost 100% it has 2S.
Does 3D blurb show 5+ or 4+ D?
