Running small tournaments (3-5 tables) and would like the number of rounds to depend on the number of tables, etc. so that everyone plays everyone else once. I know I can edit the tournament before it starts to take care of this but today for instance one pair was not logged in at tournament start and so number of tables changed. Is there any way to change the number of boards and boards per round once the tournament starts?

It sounds like you would like to run a howell movement.

We can activate that for you if you wish.

It's supported in a pretty raw form at the moment. Take a look at the instructions and see whether it's something that would fit your needs:

Is this what McBruce is calling the "volleyball" movement? Asking for a friend (actually, seriously I am; she told me it's not ready yet, which is why we had to play 6 boards against two pairs and 3 against the other two last week).

Can this description be set at game time, when they know if they have 4 tables or 7?

Yes I would like to get activated for this but also had a few questions...

* Will this work if I don't know the exact number of tables until the tournament actually starts? If so, in the format section of the tournament does it ignore total boards and just use the specified "boards per round"?

* Blog says tournament must be clocked although it seems like this movement could work for unclocked if supported. I had been using unclocked so as to minimize the number of unfinished boards and board adjustments.

* A clocked question. Does the next round start as soon as all tables are finished with a round if the clock has not expired yet?

OK, added howell permission to your username.

According to our offline movements expert:

Yes this will work even if you don't know the exact number of pairs. Count your max expected and set the tournament around that. Server will automatically adjust to the closest best.

Only clocked is supported, don't use unclocked, it won't work.

Players move as soon as they all finish. If all tables are done for the round, they move, they won't sit and wait for the clock to time out.

Another clarification from the expert that wasn't clear to me reading the notes - the server will automatically adjust the actual number of boards to the multiple of rounds that is closest to your specificed number of boards. So if you set 24 boards and there are 7 rounds then you will get 21 boards rather than 28.

One last question. Does +howell+ work if there are sitouts, too?

Thanks a lot for offering Howells.

Yes, it works with sitouts. The game won't be cancelled if you don't replace the sitouts.

Will the presence of sitouts have a negative effect on speed of play (forcing each board to reach maximum number of minutes even if all other tables have finished) or not?
