I've been chatting with a player who just returned from the Red Deer Regional, AB
He had some of the usual negative experiences from a players perspective, that we read on here but he did say that there
was one Director who was excellent and particularly, his personal skills were exemplary.
He said this TD was Michael Fair...something.

I thought this was worth sharing.

So. You're trying to get Michael to work not just harder, but a lot harder. Slave driver.

I'm sure that like many he is happy to be called "Director".
And doubly happy that someone recognized he was doing his best and maybe even succeeding :)

Don't forget their last name, "please".

I dunno. For me it's lost in the historical/sociological whirlstorm whether one exercising a right needs to behave as if asking for a favour, and whether he acquires merit if he does so even when not required.
I'm happy with or without please, so long as there is only one exclamation mark and everyone at the table acts as if calling me is normal :)

Funeral Director (don't tend to wear that jacket any more, too hard to pack, but I still like it)
Not-Doug
That [...] (Again)

But good to hear. Certainly it was a good week (despite two, major, (one very public, but both of them fixable) mistakes, and two emergencies neither of which were bridge-related) and I'm glad the players enjoyed it, and I'm glad they had directors that can help that enjoyment.

(also glad nobody can actually *spell* that name. No, please don't fix it.)

And like pescetom, as long as it's not pronounced "DIE-REC-TOR!" or otherwise makes clear that who they're actually calling are the cops, I can take the unspoken "please" as read. Note: that does *not* apply to the caddy (in particular, her name is not "BOARDS!").

Having said all of that, the amusing one was at least three people asking me where the caddy was, and why I (and the other directors, but I was usually with my computer in the teams area) was doing the caddying instead. In at least two cases, because they were involved with hiring her... "Oh, we taught her to run the dealer, and gave her the choice of caddying 8 tables twice a session or making 5 sets of boards a session, and she went with 'don't be bored'. I know which one I'd rather be doing, and can also guess who you'd rather be unavailable for a call half of every session."

And Tracey would (and should) be proud of this. Any personal skills present were carefully trained around the age of 38, by a prime example of "can speak tech to techs and human to humans, and also tech to humans and human to techs." I've met about 3. If you're still in business and need authentication solutions, check her out..
Long live the Republic-k. -- Major General J. Golding Frederick (tSCoSI)

I do know how you spell your name but thought it was fun to continue this confusion of your name, and the spelling.
Has anyone thought of announcing at the start of the session “your TD(s) for today are”
I know McBruce does introduce any co TD at the Sectionals, and of course everyone knows who the big guy in charge is.
