endplays or throw-ins in bridge are more common than zugzwangs in chess, right?

That's that. Very interesting match over all.

I think finally black has a better position than white, for the first time in this whole match. Hardly likely that anyone will win this though. We are lucky to have seen 4 decisive games anyway, remember Kramnik vs Kasparov? yuck.

This is not true, Anand blew a win as black early on in the match, I forget which game.

Can't see which game you're referring to. You made me curious, I'm trying to find it.

Yeah I can't see which I'm referring to either, I just went over the games. Maybe I thought Anand was winning game 3 for a while... I retract my statement lol

Anand by all accounts was a huge favorite in the rapid/blitz tie breaker, so it's possible Topalov was just pushing too hard for a win in this game to avoid the tiebreaker.

Exciting match...twists & turns in momentum, lots of decisive games, and a couple of almost-decisive ones. I got the impression that Anand clearly played better on balance, but was a little more jittery under pressure (by which I mean, the way the games were, something like 7.5-4.5 wasn't out of the question, but he let a couple get away from him), but then he sucked it up and took down game 12 with black. Epic!

Is Anand projected to overtake Carlsen's Elo rating with this win?

The top 4 were very close before the match started, but Anand should surely improve on his 4th. The question is whether he will be 1st in the next FIDE list.

I would guess not, I mean 6.5-5.5 is not a big difference and neither was the difference between these two very big. Meanwhile Carlsen is playing a tournament now, in Dortmund if I am not mistaken.

He'll probably gain 8 or 9 points, passing Kramnik for third, but not Topalov (or Carlsen, obviously).

Yes, you seem to have got it right.

An unofficial rating site:

shows Anand still at #3 position
