Playing in the open flight of the national GNT competition (i.e., good ops). X would be a general game try. What do you do?

PS, their responsive double would be the type to show both minors, not the type to show exactly 4 hearts. You and your partner use drury aggressively over X, and raise aggressively too.

4s not just because it might have play but the opps might conceivably
be able to make 7h so we are trying to make their bidding life as
difficult as possible:))))))))))))))))))))) if the opps press on to 5h
pass and hope they have miscalculated somehow. I have a certain
respect for anyone with the guts to trot out 4n and sign off in 5s
(something i would do at favorable).

4D. That helps me get the write-up when I lead the spade 10 to partner's Jack, ruff the diamond, back to his 8 of spades that he carefully signaled when Dummy had 2, and then ruff another diamond.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Or, perhaps it leads partner to take an expensive phantom sacrifice on the "huge double fit" when he holds five diamonds to several honors.

I'll go with a pedestrian 4♠ thank you. :)

I think there is a good chance West has a big overcall in diamonds. I also dont think its that likely they are going to compete to 5H.
So that why I dont like 4D or sandbagging with 3S & a delayed 4S.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

It will certainly get you a writeup when one of the opps wins with the stiff J of S and makes an otherwise unmakeable contract.

Surely it is better to underlead with a small card, maybe partner has 8xx and declarer doesn't play the J from dummy.

Do we have a mixed raise available over the x?

4♠ looks normal in the forums but IRL partner has a doubleton heart, 3 spades and imperfect values in the minors. I think partner can accept my game try with a stiff heart on his own. This will also stop our aggro opps from bidding 5♥ which we might or might not beat.

Fair point. I mean, the logic of having to bid the diamonds to make the 10 of spades not suit pref but actually enabling a signal of the 8 is quite compelling, even if insane, and genius is very similar and close to insanity.

The question, then, is whether past theories support one hypothesis or another, but then you start to wonder appropriately how many past "knowns" are misunderstood jokes also. A quandry...
