The bid of 3 is listed as 14-16 points
ridiculous, i have passed twice
i have 5 clubs and NV just want to play 3C
My hand

i ve passed twice surely i have denied 14 - 16 pts
this makes it impossible to compete to 3
Sarcasm is a state of mind

Total points not HCP.
GIB is assigning an explanation to your bid that would (in its opinion) make it a rational and sensible bid given that you are a passed hand.
It has great support for your shapely 3 bid so it came to the party when you invited it.
Ops have 4 - so GIB made the right choice.

I don't see what these two things have to do with each other.. no way E/W are finding 4 after that start if GIB passes 3. If going by scores alone, then GIB bidding over 1 was already the wrong choice.

Doesn't everybody play a simple competitive raise as 14-16 points?

Robots have done this to me dozens of times. And the higher you balance (after passing), the more points you're assigned (20+, 30+) for balancing at the 4 or 5 level even when it's not possible based on your passing and the opponents bidding. Usually they'll raise a sacrifice to slam making sacrifices impossible to bid.

Nobody commented so far on the East-West bidding, but what's up with the 1 response by East? West's 1 rebid looks okay opposite a natural 1, but 2 later on???

Exactly: it is East's perverse refusal to bid or even raise spades that screwed up this auction.

It is a general problem that GIB doesn't understand competitive bids, and bids that are stretched because you are under pressure. Generally, unless a bid is explicitly defined as weak (and obviously GIB doesn't have explicit definitions for most of the gazillion possible auctions), GIB will assume that you have enough values to make the contract you bid under a worst-case scenario.

This particularly example is not even that ridicolous. I have seen far worse. Once I advanced over partner's overcall after opps had opened 2. Since my bid showed some 27 points or whatever, partner asked for aces. I passed the 4NT bid, 4NT-9 was a good score. No double no trouble.

This is another example, I double and then raise partner's 3 to game, and partner takes that as showing 25+ points and bids slam with its useless 5-count.

By the way, has an instruction on how to post handviewer links been pinned somewhere? I can never get it to work, even when trying to quote Pilowsky's post above and amend it to my own link.

Thanks pescetom :) But I had to append 400|300|][/hv] i.e. an extra ]

HOW TO INSERT A DIAGRAM WITH PLAY IN A BRIDGEBASE FORUM POST

1. Reviewing the hand record click on Options -> Export Deal -> Handviewer Link. This will give a URL such as:
http://tinyurl.com/7z7qfjw

2. open this in a browser and get redirected to a long URL

3. copy this URL and paste into the body of a new bridgebase forum post

3. remove text up to and including "?"

4. precede with "[hv="

5. append "400|300|[/hv]"

6. add any comments in () brackets

7. preview and adjust if necessary.

PS1: at one point in time it wasn't possible to get the tinyurl with all clients, but just jump to step 3 if this is still the case

PS2: not that I ever remember this either :)

Thanks, pescetom.

I don't know why my diagram becomes so ridiculously small, though. I would think the two last numbers (400 and 300 in your suggestion) control the size but they don't seem to have any effect. Pilowsky used 300 and 300.

Solid bidding by GIB North. Almost makeable contract with hearts sitting favorably. All 6 needs to make is for East to hold up the A 2 rounds and slam is cold. I put this in the unlucky category. Well defended by East to win one of the first 2 clubs.

Pilowsky just copied what Nige1 did but he still can't work out how to show a hand so that NS are visible and EW are hidden but the cards from EW still appear when you use the 'next' and 'previous' buttons. Posted Image

The format
- your words here -

Is what I always use.

The above is: The format {hv='full link'}300|300| - your words here - {/hv}
But with square brackets instead of curly braces.

- Also works with the Spade Diagram button on the forum.

{hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1cppp}133|100| - Also works with the Spade Diagram button on the forum.{/hv}

Just remove the e=xxx and w=xxx hands from the URL, keeping the p=xxx played cards, so you get a URL like this:

https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?s=SAQ8HT4DKQJT87C82&n=SK94H87D64CAQT743&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1H2D2HPPD3C4CPPDPP4DDPPP&p=S3S4STSADKD9D4D5DQH6D6D2DJS5C3DAHKH4H2H7H5HTHAH8H3C4HJD7DTS6C7D3C2C5CQC9S9S2SQS7D8C6CTSJC8CKCAHQSKH9S8CJ

s=SAQ8HT4DKQJT87C82 south's hand
n=SK94H87D64CAQT743 north's hand
d=e dealer
v=n vulnerability (n, e, b for both, or leave out)
b=2 board number
a=1H2D2HPPD3C4CPPDPP4DDPPP auction, alerts follow each bid in brackets (url-encoded)
p=S3S4STSADKD9D4D5DQH6D6D2DJS5C3DAHKH4H2H7H5HTHAH8H3C4HJD7DTS6C7D3C2C5CQC9S9S2SQS7D8C6CTSJC8CKCAHQSKH9S8CJ played cards
